This Sunday, as we celebrate the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, we are drawn into the Gospel story of Mary and Joseph bringing the infant Jesus to the temple in Jerusalem (Luke 2:22-40). In obedience to the law of Moses, they present their firstborn to God, trusting in His plan and placing their child entirely in His care. This act of radical trust is not just a moment in history—it is an invitation for all of us to place our lives and our families into the hands of God.
The presentation of Jesus reminds us that we do not belong to ourselves. Like Mary and Joseph, we are called to surrender our lives to God, trusting that He is the loving Father who cares for us and our families.
This kind of trust can feel daunting at times. We may worry about the future, the challenges we face, or the uncertainties of life. Yet, Simeon’s words to Mary and Joseph remind us of the hope we have in Jesus: "My eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples." (Luke 2:30-31)
God’s salvation, revealed in Christ, assures us that we are never alone in our journey. He is the light who guides us, even in the darkest times.
As our parish enters the first week of the academic year, this message of trust and surrender feels particularly timely. The summer break has come to an end, and families, students, and teachers are stepping into new beginnings. It’s a time of excitement but also a time of transition and uncertainty.
Just as Mary and Joseph entrusted their most precious gift—their child Jesus—into the care of God, we are called to entrust our children, our work, and our futures into His loving hands.
Let us also reflect on the role of community in this journey. Simeon and Anna, two faithful witnesses in the temple, recognize Jesus as the Messiah and proclaim His mission to the world.
Their presence reminds us that we do not walk this path of faith alone. God places people in our lives—our parish family, our schools, and our community—to support, encourage, and journey with us.
As we begin this new school year and return to the rhythm of parish life, may we embrace the example of Mary and Joseph, trusting fully in God’s care. Let us invite Him to be the Father of our families and the Shepherd of our souls.
Together, let us walk forward with confidence, knowing that the light of Christ shines in our lives and leads us always to the heart of the Father.
Blessed Sunday and a joyful start to the year!
